The ‘Frameworks’ Project

PHASE ONE and PHASE TWO
PHASE ONE
The sketching out of ideas around ‘Frameworks’ and the Development of the Methodology and Prototype Tool

Phase ONE dates back to 2011 when the ideas around what was to become ‘Frameworks’ were formulated.

The ’Frameworks’ Project was initiated: (i) Development of a Methodology and a Tool; (ii) Dissemination (Book); (iii) Securing Funding (Key Inputs identified: Programming & Coding; (iv) Illustration & Animation; Research Assistant).

These ideas were put to various potential funders with responses including: “We fund organisations not individuals”; “This is exactly what we are looking for in the Creative Informatics programme”; “This has clear potential application in Education”; “Is this a business?”; “This proposal to develop ‘Frameworks’ as a prototype methodology and tool appears to be largely Theoretical”.

While continuing to seek and secure funding for the ‘Frameworks’ Project – Phase ONE has been implemented. Which is the development of the ‘Frameworks’ Methodology and the development and delivery of a Prototype Tool. And the publication of a Book about ‘Frameworks’. Delivering a description of the ideas around ‘Frameworks’, a description of the Methodology, and a working Prototype Tool.

The Book: “Frameworks Making Sense of It All in the Age of Big Information”.

Phase ONE has been about “Walking the Talk”. Realising a vision and the “theoretical” – as a tangible web-based tool. Which is what the Educational Technologist specified would be need if teachers and children in schools were to try it out.

Without the benefit of pump-prime funding – delivering in 2024 – a simple web-based tool – freely accessible on the Magic Browser Website. Where the Magic Browser Website is a portal for ‘Frameworks’. Access to the tool, and the narrative which is the genesis of ‘Frameworks’.

The ’Frameworks’ Tool : “The Intelligent Frame”

Simple, interactive and supporting information modelling and the visual representation of thinking and understanding.

The ‘Frameworks’ Tool Version 3.0

Designated “The Intelligent Frame” to highlight that the interaction – the construction of models of thinking – is frame-based and rule-based and the “Thinker Modeller” is guided and governed in this process.

A Prototype Tool – to be tested and evaluated by Teachers and Their Pupils in Primary and Early Years.

A simple tool for and enabling structured thinking.  A simple tool for the representation and communication of thinking and understanding in the form of simple graphical models.

Models of independent thinking constructed by the thinker.

In an interactive process of simple, frame-based and rule-based, modelling.  Independent thinking.  Structured thinking.  Organising thinking and ideas. Modelling, visualising, (Your) thinking and understanding.

Communicating and Sharing.

Developing better models for better understanding and for better problem solving.

Modelling Key Stuff in the digital world.   Making sense of it all.  Digital informatics for the 21st century digital world.

Foundational education: awareness, capabilities and skills.

PHASE TWO
Securing funding and key inputs.

The Evaluation of Phase ONE and Further implementation of the Methodology in the Prototype Tool: Version 4.0 (with the Stuff Box Object implemented).  Feedback to the Book.

The design for the ‘Stuff Box’

Realising the Design and the Methodology in the Tool: fully implementing the Meta Model.

Further video animations in explanation.

A New Tool?  A Useful Tool?  Impact?

A new tool?  With impact on the new and next generation of children.  A simple tool for modelling their thinking and modelling their stuff?

Further testing of the Prototype Tool Version 4.0 and the Methodology.

A test of usability, impact and usefulness.  Does ‘Frameworks’ provide a way of structured thinking”?  Does ‘Frameworks’ provide a way of dealing with complexity and making sense of it all in the 21st century digital world?  Does it fulfil a need?
